About

Bess Egerton (she/her), known by her artist name Hag, is a Meanjin/Brisbane-based music producer and session musician specialising in bass and guitar. Her signature sound - warm, polished and intricate with raw charm - draws inspiration from artists such as Sam Evian, Clairo, Anna Laverty, Ester Dean, Jack Antonoff and Steve Albini.

Since 2020, Bess has performed at over 200 shows on the east coast of Australia, collaborating with a wide range of artists. She has played for many projects in genres spanning indie / folk / pop / rock / alt / grunge / punk / electronic / dance, and has performed in Lighthouse Mouse, Phia Scott, Hayley Marsten, The Zon, Georgie Taylor, Leevai, and Cheap Date. As a founding member of the band Red Hill, she blends folk, punk and alternative rock influences into their dynamic performances. Alongside her live work, she releases music as Hag, with upcoming singles and albums featuring a range of collaborators.

Bess is dedicated to creating safe, inclusive creative spaces where women, LGBTQIA+, and gender-diverse artists feel supported to express themselves freely. Known for her adaptability, fast DAW workflow in Logic Pro X, and ability to put vocalists at ease, she brings both technical skill and emotional sensitivity to her work. Her achievements include booking Lighthouse Mouse for UQ’s 2,000+-attendee toga party supporting Holy Holy, nearing 400,000 streams for her track 'Vashti', being selected for the Airlock Studios Immersive Program, and representing QUT at the Australian Women in Music Awards as a female producer.

Triple J’s Home and Hosed host Anika Luna has stated that "there's something about Hag's arrangements that I find really encapsulating - I love the way they create an almost new and exciting sonic world! I've got a keen ear on this project".
