Mixing

Precision and Sensitivity

I approach mixing as both a technical craft and a creative extension of the songwriting process. Using Logic Pro X, I focus on enhancing clarity, depth, and balance while preserving the character that makes each track unique.

Artist-Centred Approach

Whether polishing a vocal session or balancing a full arrangement, I prioritise communication with the artist to ensure the final mix reflects their vision. My workflow is efficient yet detail-oriented, allowing room for experimentation while delivering results that feel polished and industry-ready. I keep all mix versions and allow for extended feedback and reviews.

Hati

I recorded and mixed this track for Harriet (Hati). We spent 3.5 hours recording in my room studio and it was a very comfortable and effortless session.

"Every session with Bess is approached with the performer's comfort in mind, and I have incredible vocal results due to her approach to recording!"

Enoshima

Leevai  & Yasu Cub

I had the pleasure of contributing to the mix for this track. Levi — whose band I play bass in — recorded it with a friend in Japan, and brought me in as one of the final ears on the project. During our studio sessions for his album at Hunting Ground, I added the finishing touches to the mix, drawing on my ear for clarity and balance, which Levi has come to trust.

"Working with Bess in the studio is an inspiring and easy experience. A strong sense of collaboration and contributing ideas really elevated my songs to new heights; I couldn't recommend working with her enough"

First Time at Life

Soleil

Sophie (aka Soleil) reached out after I offered mix support on our Music Creation 4 noticeboard. When she sent me the track, it included four drum tracks, two acoustic guitars, MIDI piano, and a completed vocal comp. I began by expanding the arrangement — adding guitar, additional keys and drum triggers — while starting the initial mix at home. During our in-person session in the UAD room, Sophie provided mix notes, and I took the opportunity to walk her through my process in a collaborative, supportive way. She expressed genuine appreciation for the guidance. After receiving the bass stems later on, I finalised the mix from home and in the Neve room.

Heart On Your Side

Hannah Jones

Hannah approached me with this track she had started producing and asked for my help with both mixing and adding new elements. I contributed several guitar layers and enhanced the drums and keyboards to round out the arrangement. I then mixed some more under her guidance in the Neve Room. I thought Hannah did a great job with vocal mixing, so I made only minimal changes, spending around five hours in total on editing and final mixing.
